REFLECTION

Experience

As this was my first semester at BDCM, many things were new to me, and Typography was my most time-consuming module. However, as much as it required my time and effort into each project, I enjoyed it as much as it did. Each project allowed me to learn different aspects of knowledge about Typography, and by completing each task I was able to improve my skills and learning experience and apply them to my work to develop and enhance the quality of my tasks. Furthermore, the weekly feedback received from my lecturers, Ms Hsin Yin and Mr Vinod helped me tremendously in my design and working process, especially in the details. Their feedback kept me on the right track throughout the 14 weeks of this module as it helped me to acknowledge the right approach to the design objectives of each project. I also liked that my lecturers allowed us to express our style of uniqueness in my designs and I was able to freely explore my style through the given tasks. Overall, this module allowed me to learn various things about Typography and I enjoyed every learning opportunity throughout the weeks. I appreciate being able to learn useful knowledge on Typography and hope to be able to utilize my knowledge in future events.

Observations

Paying attention to the details was my key point of development throughout the 14 weeks of this module. I learned that every single detail applied to each element works together to create harmony in the overall outcome of my designs. This was also my opportunity to explore further Adobe tools and their functions that I did not know previously before beginning this module, especially helping myself with the guidelines and measurements that keep the consistency of the design stable. I also enjoyed seeing how other students approach the same given task in a whole different style of design for each project, this gave me a chance to learn different interesting perspectives of view and I appreciate the uniqueness of people.

Findings

I learned that the design process is as important as the final outcome; it helps us to discover and approach the objectives in different ways and allows us to explore our creativity with different variant versions of Typography design. I also learned that to achieve an interesting design we need a good foundation of basic knowledge of Typography especially the historical development and the terminologies that allow us to enhance the quality of our works. Lastly, I am thankful for my learnings throughout the weeks and I would like to discover and explore more about Typography.
