  • Change the title of section 2.3 to ‘Conclusion’ and talk about the research methodology employed by the researchers and how it resulted in their study.

Week 08 (Independent Learning Week)
Feedback:-
Action by Student:-

Week 09 / Task 2 Visual Design Publication Proposal
Feedback:
  • The heading font for idea 2 seems a little heavy (New Spirit font), mixing Helvetica as the heading and Bricolage Gtotesque as body text would be better for typographic choice.

  • Flush left for body text is more reader-friendly and avoids the text space causing rivers.

  • Try to explore further with the two proposed colour schemes to see which one fits better– however, navy colour suits better than red.

  • Try using a collage style for the chosen posters in the cover page instead of using grid.

Action by Student:
  • Used the second idea for the colours with combinations of Helvetica as the heading and bricolage grotesque for the body text.

  • Added some threshold photos of movie scenes

FINAL REFLECTION

Completing the tasks in this Design Research Dissertation module allowed me to strengthen the skills and knowledge I have learned and discovered from the previous module, which was Design Research Methodology. As the overall tasks of this module were based on the research information and data we gathered from the previous semester, I was able to look back on my thoughts and knowledge from past experiences and learned to improve them with the support of my lecturer while working on the first draft of my research dissertation. I also learned that writing a dissertation paper not only requires a good knowledge of the topic itself but also a thorough understanding of the structure of the dissertation paper– understanding a substantial amount of what each section is for and learning how these sections work together to create a flow of research process is crucial, especially in enhancing the relevancy of my research objective and question. Furthermore, the process of understanding the purpose of each chapter helped me to figure out a better writing direction to support my research objective. Another thing I enjoyed about this module was that we had a task that we were assigned to design a digital flipbook of our own dissertation. The overall process of exploring and deciding a suitable book design based on the theme and topic of my research was entertaining and I liked that I was able to express my ideal style of design into the study of my interest. In addition, I observed that citation and paraphrasing takes a crucial part in a research study as not only it labels the source of origin but also proves and support your statements and analysis. Submitting my research dissertation into Turnitin also helped me to acknowledge which part of citation I lack or had missed, allowing me to improve and pay more attention in the future. The final task of writing for article publishing was also something that was new to me, where I learned to shorten the amount of content of my writing based on the given format and structure. Lastly, I am grateful that I was able to attend every week's consultation hours and receive insightful feedback from my lecturer, Dr Jinchi, which allowed me to find a clearer writing direction throughout working on each task.
